Sagar Bapat

Sagar P. Bapat, MD, PhD, is a physician-scientist whose laboratory investigates how diet and other daily behaviors reprogram immune circuits to influence metabolism, tissue physiology, and disease. Guided by the principle of “Food as Medicine,” his laboratory integrates innovative mouse models with functional genomics and genome engineering to define how nutritional and neuroendocrine cues shape T cell and myeloid programs across adipose tissue, skin, lung, and brain. The group’s goal is to identify mechanisms that promote resilience and prevent illness.

Sagar grew up in Georgia and has spent most of his adult life in California. Outside the lab, he enjoys photography, exploring the natural beauty of San Francisco, and time with his family.
